Tahiti

Taaaaawwwhhhhhiti

Having partied my **s off in Fiji, Tahiti meant action again. My arrival was slightly disappointing. Tahiti: white beaches, turquoise waters & palm trees, right? Well, with nothing but a crappy town and a massive storm that picture got a bit of a blow, but a hop (took a while thanks to the storm) to the next island, Moorea eased my mind.

I may have arrived on Moorea in the night in the storm, but I awoke on a beautiful green island. With heaps of rough cliffs and lots of vegetation the islands are a lust for the eye. Morally speaking there may be some objections, but I have to say that the shark feeding dive was quite spectacular. Unfortunately, a lot of the coralreef has been harmed by crown of thorns. The fish life more than made up for that, though.

After Moorea it was on to Raitaea. Despite the rain I went cycling. Planning to visit a Farae some 30 km away. The trip was great and gave me the opportunity to see loads. Unfortunately on my way back I had a flat tire. Gentle as the people here are, I didn´t have to walk long to catch a ride home.

One more stop
Some diving on Huahine was next on the list. Having found a place with cheap cabins, a campground, a nice surf nearby & a diveschool around the corner, I figured I could finally break the solitude and meet some people… But no, again I spent practically all my time just by myself. Nothing wrong with that…. just not every single day. If I ever come back here, it will defenitely not be by myself! Taaaawwwhhhhiti is absolutely gorgeous, but kinda boring on your own.

On to the next white beaches??????

Last night I arrived safely in Tahiti, completely exhausted after a ridiculously long trip. Thanks to a change in flightschedules on the side of Air New Zealand, the flight from Fiji to Tahiti that I booked a year ago no longer exists. Not only did it take me two days to get them convinced they still had an obligation to fly me to Tahiti, they now landed me my worst lay-over yet. Where it would have taken me less then 3 hours in with my original ticket, I now got to take a 3 hour flight back to Auckland arriving at 1 in the night. My 5 hour flight (in the same direction where I came from the night before) unfortunately was not untill 11 the next morning. Upon arrival in Auckland I learned that the transit-dorm I had pre-booked a couple of days before, so that I would at least get a couple of hours of sleep, was overbooked. Which left me no options but to find myself a nice couch somewhere in the terminal ;-) Needles to say I was kinda tired when I got here (all though I have to admit that the goodbye party we threw ourselves on our last night in Fiji probably did not help much either ;-) )

But hey, it`s all good right? Cause I`m going to Tahiti – white beaches, turqoise water, palm trees?????? Uhhhh??? How about heaps of rain in a town that looks like a shabby suburb???? Yeah, that sounds more like the view a look over my shoulder gives me right now ;-) But I am not giving up! Over the next week I will go and see if I can find the image that the name Tahiti triggers in our imagination……….

What I am giving up on though is this computer. The french keypad is driving me nuts and making it even harder for me to make propper sentences then it normally is ;-)  so do not be surprised if my promised update does not come untill I arrive in L.A. next week (the 20 hour lay-over) should give me plenty of time to give you guys a nice idea on what I have been up to the last month….. For those of you back home I am sooooooo looking forward to doing that in person on Tuesday!
