Curaçao
Dushi week
After my aunt called me that she was coming to visit me (just not quite in Costa Rica) I had two incredibly stressy days in order to arrange my trip to Curaçao – which was nearly impossible from Tamarindo. I ended up flying to Miami and then back down again, I might as well have flown back to Holland for a visit. The time of my lay-over I spent looking for a worldmap for my aunt, so that maybe next time she wants to come and visit me, she can at least pick the neighbouring country
But the long journey was well worth it. Other then the week in Holland (where a lot of people wanted to see me in such a short time), we now got to spend the whole week just the four of us with all the time to spare, hanging out, chatting and laughing.
With our little car we spent each day discovering a different beach, one more idealic then the other. And as
if the prestine white beaches and turquoise sea aren´t enough, the underwaterworld in Curaçao is gorgeous as well. So Meer, Wil & I have spent just about the same time on the beach as in the water. We even got Tante Kee to take a peek every now & then. The days past easily, driving up to a new beach in the morning, sunbathing, snorkeling, having coffee with Tante Kee and having long lunches. Of course I also popped in the water with a tank a few times and even made my first dive with an underwaterscooter.
On my last day, Tante Kee invited me on a trip to Klein Curaçao. Even though the getting
up at 5.00 was not that much fun, the trip itself was great. Watching sunrise from a sailing boat (although some of us might have missed that trying to catch up on some of sleep), relaxing on even more quiet and beautiful white beaches and of course the hunt to catch a glimpse of a turtle or two (we´ve actually managed to see 4!). After a lovely lunch on board the ship, Wil & Meer decided to jump of the stern… well in the end anyway
Once on the stern, the girls seemed to have changed their minds and seemed to have picked the stern just to hang out and go for tan… but while I jumped 3 times, went swimming & then snorkeling, the cheers of the rest of the boat must have helped, cause with a big splash, there they went!
On the way back, we chilled out with a glass of wine on deck. Hmmmm what a lovely day. Although fully satisfied with such a long day, we went for a big dinner anyway, it being evening before Christmas and my last evening. And then after a quick snorkle in the morning to the little tuckboat, it was time for goodbyes & back to school for me!
After such a great week in the loving warmth of my family Christmas Eve was slightly lonely being on a plane, with no food being served on the plain and everything eatable sold out. But even though I had nothing but a chocolate bar for Christmas dinner and a long trip behind me, I arrived in Costa Rica with a big grin on my face.
The trip to Curaçao was special in many ways. Three years ago Tante Kee, Guid & Fien and I got enjoy Mama´s final holiday & dream come through right here on Curaçao. Being there again with Tante Kee in (almost to the date) the same period three years later, enabled us to enjoy the sweet memories of that amazing trip together. We got to show the beautiful places, share the funny stories of that trip with Meer & Wil. It made me feel rich to be able to be so close to my mum and do nothing but enjoy experiencing the amazing memories of one trip, with the people I love on another amazing trip. I know now better then ever, that no matter how long I´ll travel, as long as I have my family I have a home!
